Lolo National Forest and Clearwater National Forest meet along the high-elevation boundary of Montana and Idaho, creating a landscape defined by prominent peaks and deep drainage basins. The terrain is anchored by West Fork Butte in the north and Skookum Butte to the south, with the Bitterroot Range topography dropping into significant features like Sally Basin and Chief Joseph Gulch. Water systems are central to this area, with the headwaters of E Fork Lolo Cr and East Park Cr cutting through the slopes. In the southern portion, high-country hydrology is represented by Granite Lake and the open terrain of Lost Park Meadows. This 2014 survey documents the Forest Service road networks, including Nat For Dev Rd 59561, which provide access to these remote ridgelines and the secluded Lily Lake.
