Wheeler Springs and the nearby Wheeler Gorge serve as the primary human touchpoints in this 2018 survey of the southern Los Padres National Forest. The landscape is dominated by the steep drainage systems of Sespe Cr and the Santa Ynez Mountains, which define the topography north of Ojai. Evidence of the region's land use and access is visible through specialized corridors like Gypsum Mine Rd, Upper Hartman Ranch Rd, and Matilija Canyon Rd. The confluence of multiple forks of Matilija Cr and Bear Cr creates a complex hydrologic network at the southern edge of the quadrangle. High elevation landmarks such as Pine Mtn and Dry Lakes Ridge contrast with the deep cut of the Sespe Gorge, illustrating the dramatic vertical relief that characterizes this portion of Ventura County.
