The landscape is defined by its dramatic relief, with the Rio Grande carving through the White Rock Reservoir and reaching southward toward the Cochiti Reservoir. To the east, across the river, the Caja del Rio Plateau and Mesa de la Mesilla provide a stark, undeveloped contrast to the laboratory and residential zones on the western mesas.
