About this map

Mt Rainier and the glaciated peaks of the Cascade Range dominate the western horizon of this mid-century landscape, where massive ice fields like Carbon Glacier and Emmons Glacier feed the headwaters of the Cowlitz River and Naches River. To the east, the terrain transitions into the irrigated valleys and volcanic ridges of the Yakima Indian Reservation and the Yakima Valley Transportation Company rail lines. This era shows the critical water management infrastructure of the Tieton Reservoir (Rimrock Lake) and Bumping Lake, which sustained the growing agricultural hubs of Yakima and Toppenish.
