Yale Dam stands at the heart of this landscape, separating the waters of Yale Lake from the lower Lake Merwin along the border of Cowlitz and Clark Counties. The terrain is defined by dramatic elevation changes, moving from the industrial reservoir operations at the dam to the high peaks of Tumtum Mtn and Bare Mt. Large portions of the eastern and southern map areas are managed as part of the Gifford Pinchot National Forest, where a network of forest roads and creek systems like Canyon Creek and Siouxon Creek weave through the timberland.
