About this map

Santa Rosa Mtns dominate the western half of this terrain, where steep ridges like Rabbit Peak descend toward the sunken basin of the Salton Sea. Along the western shore, small desert outposts and service stops cluster near the Highway 99 corridor, including the Oasis Maintenance Sta and Oriols Service Sta. This mid-century survey captures the region's scattered settlement pattern, from the Oasis Sch to the Flemming Saw Mill at Fish Springs. The landscape is defined by its arid hydrology, with numerous washes such as Arroyo Salada, Coral Wash, and Palm Wash cutting through the Clay Hills toward the sea. Remote water sources like Seventeen Palms Spring and Four Palms Springs appear as vital landmarks for those traversing the Trail networks through the desert and toward the Fossil Beds.
