Alamito and the surrounding high plains of Mora County are defined by a complex network of arroyos and canyons that drain into the Canadian River. This 2017 survey details a landscape where the river snakes through dramatic geological features, most notably the deep loops of Upper Horseshoe Bend and Lower Horseshoe Bend along the eastern edge of the quadrangle. The settlement pattern is sparse, centered on small locales like El Sierro and the eponymous Alamito, which are connected by Route 271.
