About this map

Alkaline Lake dominates this prairie pothole landscape on the border of Kidder and Logan Counties. The map reflects a region heavily dedicated to conservation and the protection of migratory birds, as evidenced by large tracts of protected land including the Alkaline Lake State Wildlife Management Area and the Lake George National Wildlife Refuge. The terrain is characterized by numerous small depressions and basins across the townships of Valley, Tanner, Peace, and Graf. While mostly undeveloped, the area includes the Streeter Memorial State Park on the shores of Lake George. Local industry is represented by several Gravel Pits located near Fresh Lake, indicating the geological utility of the glacial drift common to this part of the state in the early 1980s.
