Coteau des Prairies rises as a prominent upland divide along the border of Brown and Day Counties in South Dakota. This 2017 survey reveals a glaciated landscape defined by numerous prairie potholes and seasonal water bodies. The northern portion of the quadrangle is anchored by the waters of Amsden Lake and Pigors Lake, which collect runoff from the meandering Mud Cr. A sparse network of county roads, including County Road 20 and County Road 41, segments the township into the traditional grid of the Public Land Survey System. Genealogists may find interest in the lone rural landmark of Scotland Cem, situated in the southern reaches of the township, which serves as a quiet record of early prairie settlement and the families who established farms in this expansive agricultural region.
