Coconino National Forest defines this high-country landscape, where the dramatic volcanic peak of Apache Maid Mountain overlooks a network of deep drainages and ranching improvements. The terrain is deeply incised by Mullican Canyon and Jacks Canyon, with the perennial-trending Wet Beaver Cr carving through the center of the quadrangle. This 2014 survey documents a land managed for water and transit, as evidenced by the high density of named stock tanks, including Mullican Place Tank, Waldroup Tank, and Burnt Basin Tank, which reflect decades of cattle grazing history on the rim. The Maid Trl provides one of the few designated routes through this portion of the forest, crossing the Yavapai and Coconino county line. Key navigational points such as Fivemile Pass and Roundup Basin provide structural orientation within the complex topography of the Mogollon Rim country.
