Apple Springs and the surrounding Trinity County timberlands are defined by a network of forest service roads and small rural settlements during this 2013 survey. The landscape is heavily dissected by numerous watercourses, including Sandy Creek and the southern reaches of Alabama Creek, which dictate the local road patterns. Notable for genealogists is the Mt Zion Cemetery, situated near the Mount Zion Lookout and accessed by Mt Zion Road.
