Arkport sits at the southern edge of a complex hydrologic landscape where the Canaseraga Creek and the Canisteo River drain through divergent valleys. The topography is defined by significant elevation changes, from the low-lying agricultural area known as The Muck to the high ridges of Haight Hill and Sharps Hill. This modern survey illustrates the persistent importance of regional water management, evidenced by the clustered Hornell Reservoir Number One, Hornell Reservoir Number Two, and Hornell Reservoir Number Three. Numerous family and community burial grounds, including Doty's Corners Cem and the Arkport Heritage Hill Cem, are preserved across the Steuben, Allegany, and Livingston county lines. The landscape north of Hornell remains a network of rural roads and hollows, such as Reedy Hollow and Kurtz Hollow, which have shaped the local settlement patterns for generations.
