Quemado sits at the northeastern corner of this high-altitude landscape, where the seasonal waters of Largo Cr carve a path through the high desert terrain. The area is defined by a complex series of drainages, including Armstrong Canyon, Dark Canyon, and Amen Canyon, which descend from the surrounding timbered ridges. To the south, the boundary of the Apache National Forest marks a transition into more protected wilderness, characterized by the deep cuts of Spring Canyon and French Canyon.
