1940 Map of Arran

About this map

Crawfordville and the surrounding Wakulla County landscape are defined by a network of springs, swamps, and coastal inlets just before the mid-century. The Seaboard Air Line railroad cuts through the heavy timber of the Apalachicola National Forest, connecting inland settlements like Arran and Ashmore to the gulf-side reaches. Along the coast, the transition from terrestrial forest to the marshy periphery of Apalachee Bay is marked by tidal features such as Oyster Cove and Walker Creek.
