About this map

Ochlockonee Fishery and Sunday Reel Fishery represent the coastal industry of Franklin and Wakulla counties during the early 1940s. This survey, mapped by the Geological Survey for the War Department, shows a sparsely developed landscape dominated by the brackish waters of Ochlockonee Bay and the salt marshes of St James Island. The interior of the island is punctuated by freshwater and brackish features like Tucker Lake and Sand Pond, which are surrounded by a network of tidal creeks such as Big Chairs Creek and Little Chairs Cr.
