The Canadian River cuts through the southwestern corner of this San Miguel County landscape, anchoring a complex system of drainages and mesas. This high-desert terrain is defined by its deep canyons, including Cabra Canyon, Cañon Cordova, and Cañon Negro, which feed into the larger basins of Arroyo Alamocito and Arroyo Salitre. Small residential clusters and family-named localities such as La Botella, La Botella Chiquita, and Los Venados are scattered along the northern and southern fringes of the quadrangle.
