Ash Creek Butte dominates the high-elevation boundary between the Klamath National Forest and the Shasta National Forest in this 2015 survey. This Siskiyou County landscape is defined by its drainage systems and historical transit corridors, most notably the path of Military Pass and Military Pass Rd which traverse the southern and western sections. The topography rises from the open flats of Harts Meadow toward steep volcanic features and ridges like Swamp Creek Ridge. Numerous seasonal and perennial water sources including Butte Cr, Brewer Cr, and Cold Cr radiate from the central heights. Isolated landmarks such as Surprise Lake and Sugar Pine Butte serve as critical points of reference for navigating the intricate network of forest service routes like Tie Road and the various range divisions including t42n r2w and t42n r1w.
