Mesa Colorado rises as a prominent landform above a series of drainage systems in this part of Cibola County. The terrain is defined by the carved paths of Atarque Canyon and several ephemeral watercourses, including Venadito Draw, Pinitos Draw, and Terrero Draw. This network of canyons and draws suggests a landscape shaped by seasonal water flow, where drainage patterns are the primary geographical markers. Human presence is light and primarily indicated by the path of Co RD 32, which traverses the southern portion of the territory. This 2023 survey provides a modern look at the township and range boundaries of New Mexico's high desert country, recording the enduring topography of the mesa and its surrounding canyons.
