Near Islands terrain dominates this isolated portion of the Aleutian Islands, where landforms are defined by steep coastal bluffs and narrow mountain passes. The landscape is characterized by prominent high points such as McNew Hill and a series of strategic maritime landmarks including Square Point and Buchanan Point. These land features are interspersed with several landing sites, from Schuler Beach on the northern coast to Gainor Beach and Hidalgo Beach further south.
