About this map

The Cimarron River winds through the borderlands between Oklahoma and Colorado, carving a distinct hydrological path across this high plains terrain. North of the state line, the Comanche National Grassland preserves a significant portion of the landscape, where deep erosional features like Picture Canyon and the dual drainages of West Pawnee Trail Canyon and East Pawnee Trail Canyon cut through the arid plateaus. The topography is defined by these canyon systems which feed into the river valley below, creating a complex network of rimrock and drainage. A sparse grid of local routes, including Co RD 21 and n0155 RD, provides the only modern access points to this intersection of public lands and river bottoms, highlighting the isolation of this corner of the Cimarron Strip.
