The Reese River creates a primary north-south axis through this High Desert landscape in Nye County, supporting isolated outposts of human activity including the J F Bowler Ranch and O'Toole Ranch. To the west, the terrain rises into a series of drainage systems that define the area's geography, most notably the expansive Barrett Canyon and its tributaries, the North Fork Barrett Canyon and South Fork Barrett Canyon.
