The Toquima Range dominates the western portion of this terrain, where steep elevations give way to several high-altitude water sources including Mud Spring and Indian Spring. This 2021 study documents a landscape defined by its vital springs, many of which appear within the protected boundaries of the Toiyabe National Forest. The transition from the high peaks to the expansive flats of the Ralston Valley and the Ralston Desert is navigated by a network of forest development roads, including Natl Forest Develop Road 132 Rd.
