Bay L'Ours and the intricate coastal wetlands of Jefferson and Lafourche Parishes are the focus of this 2015 study. The landscape is dominated by a complex network of tidewater channels, including Bayou Perot and Bayou Rigolettes, which intersect in a region defined by shifting water levels and marshy transition zones. The presence of the Harvey Cutoff indicates the engineered waterways designed to facilitate movement through this otherwise fluid geography, where solid ground is at a premium.
