Greenwood sits at the northern edge of this coastal landscape, where the terrestrial infrastructure of southern Louisiana meets the expansive wetlands of Terrebonne Parish. The area is defined by a dense network of natural and engineered waterways, most notably the Intracoastal Waterway slicing diagonally across the marsh. Navigation and drainage are central to the local geography, seen in the convergence of the Copasaw Canal, Huth Canal, and the Ringo Cocke Canal.
