Spanish Peaks dominate the southern landscape of this mountain survey, rising above the protected high-country terrain of the Lee Metcalf Wilderness. This portion of the Gallatin National Forest shows a network of alpine basins and drainages, where the North Fork Spanish Creek and South Fork Spanish Creek converge to form the primary Spanish Creek valley.

The presence of high-altitude water bodies like Grayling Lake, Diamond Lake, and Arraia Lake suggests the glacial character of the Spanish Peaks Unit. While the Gallatin River cuts through the eastern edge, the interior is defined by steep divides such as Indian Ridge and Finnegen Ridge.
