The Canadian River carves a deep, winding path through this portion of Harding and Mora Counties, forming the dramatic Upper Horseshoe Bend in the southwestern corner. This landscape is defined by an intricate network of drainage systems, where numerous side canyons like Cañon Blanco and Cañon Hondo feed into the main river valley. Much of the high ground is managed as part of the Kiowa National Grassland, preserving the open character of the New Mexico plains.
