Indian Valley Reservoir dominates this mid-1990s survey of the Lake County backcountry, where the Indian Valley Dam and its associated Powerplant regulate the flow into North Fork Cache Creek. The landscape is a complex of sharp ridges and deep drainages including Benmore Canyon and Box Canyon, much of which is contained within the Mendocino National Forest.

Evidence of small-scale resource extraction and infrastructure is scattered throughout the hills, from the Mine and Prospects near Grizzly Canyon to several Water Tanks and a Communication Tower. Recreational development is noted at the Indian Valley Resort and the Blue Oak Recreation Site, while the rugged interior is accessible primarily via a network of 4wd tracks that follow the crests of Rocky Ridge and Wolf Creek Ridge.
