The San Andres Mountains dominate this arid landscape, where the high desert terrain transitions into the restricted territory of the White Sands Missile Range. Water sources are the primary indicators of human activity and wildlife survival in this environment, marked by a series of isolated springs along the mountain slopes, including San Nicolas Spring, Bighorn Spring, and the numbered Bennett Spring No. 1 and Bennett Spring No. 2.

Infrastructure is sparse and largely focused on surveillance and resource extraction, with an Observation Tower and Radio Towers positioned on high ground. Evidence of ranching or early settlement history appears via the Letherman Well and Bear Canyon Well, while the western portion of the map is dedicated to the San Andres National Wildlife Refuge. The network of jeep trails through San Nicolas Canyon and Bear Canyon provides the only access through this controlled and protected desert region.
