Bent Mountain and the high ridges of the Blue Ridge Mountains dominate this 2013 survey of the southern Roanoke Valley. The terrain is marked by significant vertical relief, from the peak of Twelve O'clock Knob in the north to the southern slopes near Lancaster Gap. The Blue Ridge Pkwy winds across the landscape, providing access to several scenic overlooks such as Poages Mill Overlook and Masons Knob Overlook.

Suburban development and small settlements like Boxwood Hills and Country Hills are concentrated in the northern portion of the quadrangle. In contrast, the southern reaches remain more rural and forested, characterized by named peaks like Hemppatch Mountain and Sugarloaf Mountain. The headwaters of several streams, including the N Fork Blackwater River and Back Cr, illustrate the complex drainage patterns of this upland region before they descend toward the lowlands.
