Big Cypress National Preserve and Everglades National Park meet in this 2021 survey of the Monroe County backcountry. This interior landscape is defined by the subtle hydrology of the Florida peninsula, where waters flow through Sig-Walker Strand and Gum Slough toward the coast. The topography is a mosaic of open grasslands and dense tree islands, most notably the Charley Jumper Hammock.
