Big Dune dominates this high-desert landscape in the Nye County wilderness, where the Mojave Desert meets the Amargosa Desert. The terrain is defined by dramatic volcanic and tectonic features, including the rising Yucca Mountain to the east and the distinct volcanic Lathrop Wells Cone. Arid drainage patterns are etched across the basin via the Solitario Wash and Crater Flat Wash, both feeding toward the ephemeral Amargosa River in the southwest.
