Sitgreaves National Forest covers much of this portion of the Mogollon Plateau, a landscape defined by an extensive network of washes and livestock water management features. The drainage of Cottonwood Wash and its various tributaries, such as Town Draw and Perkins Spring Draw, dictates the topography, carving a series of ridges and hollows across the high country. In this arid environment, human activity is marked by dozens of named tanks and catchments, including Big Pug Tank, Little Pug Tank, and Lee Summers Tank.
