The high-altitude borderlands between Colorado and New Mexico are defined here by the winding course of the Rio de los Pinos, which snakes through deep canyons along the state line. At the northern edge of the Carson National Forest, the small settlement of Sublette sits near a small Cem, serving as a remote outpost in a landscape dominated by timber and grazing. The complex terrain is carved by numerous drainages including Cañon Jarosita and Cañon Hondo, which fall away from the prominent Bighorn Peak.
