Elk Park sits at the southwestern edge of this landscape, a clearing defined by its proximity to the narrow corridors of Bison Canyon and McLeod Gulch. The terrain is characterized by a dense network of high-altitude drainages feeding the N Fork Little Boulder River and the Little Boulder River. Significant elevation markers such as Sullivan Mtn, Haystack Mtn, and Mt Pisgah overlook a series of specialized alpine clearings including Hidden Meadows, Berrys Meadows, and Tims Meadow. Much of the eastern portion of the quadrangle is protected within the Deerlodge National Forest, where historical naming conventions reflect early resource extraction and land use, evidenced by labels like Whiskey Gulch, Sawmill Cr, and Long Gulch. The transit corridor following Bison Cr provides the primary passage through this mountainous region, connecting the lower parkland to the steep gulches of the north.
