Richel Lodge serves as a small human outpost in this high-altitude landscape where the Custer National Forest and Shoshone National Forest meet. The geography is defined by a series of massive alpine benches, including the Silver Run Plateau, Hellroaring Plateau, and Line Creek Plateau, which overlook steep drainages and glacial basins. These basins hold numerous high-country water bodies such as Broadwater Lake, Snowbank Lake, and Greenough Lake.
