Richel Lodge serves as a lone outpost of human settlement at the foot of the massive alpine blocks that define this section of the Beartooth Mountains. The landscape is dominated by high-elevation landforms, including the Silver Run Plateau and the Hellroaring Plateau, where dozens of small alpine lakes such as Smethurst Lake and Snowbank Lake drain into a complex network of steep drainages.
