Blankenbaker Flats sits as a central high-country plateau within the Lewis & Clark National Forest, where the border between Cascade and Meagher counties winds through a series of steep drainages. The landscape is defined by dramatic elevation shifts, from the heights of Deep Creek Ridge and Monument Ridge down into the narrow confines of Devil Canyon and Wild Rock Canyon. A network of forest routes, including the Logging Creek Rd and the Deep Creek Loop, provides access through the timbered terrain and along the various branches of the local waterways. These streams, such as Sand Coulee Cr and the north and south forks of Deep Creek, carve out numerous coulees and gulches like Sawmill Gulch and Big Timber Gulch, illustrating the complex drainage patterns of this Montana wilderness.
