The Pioneer Mountains dominate this high-elevation landscape on the border of Blaine and Butte Counties. This 2013 survey identifies a remote terrain defined by steep canyons and named peaks, including the prominent Blizzard Mtn and the distinct formation of The Needles. While much of the area is protected within the Challis National Forest, evidence of human activity and early settlement persists in the form of the Brockie Ranch and Tunnel Cabin. A complex network of drainages such as Iron Mine Cr and Leadbelt Cr suggests a history of resource exploration, further indicated by landmarks like Cave Rock. The southern portion of the quadrangle opens into Blizzard Basin, where Fish Creek Rd provides one of the few managed access points into this part of the range.
