Dinsmores sits at the western edge of this mountain landscape, which is largely contained within the Six Rivers National Forest. The geography is defined by a dense network of high ridges and deep drainages, most notably the winding course of the Mad River in the southwest and the prominent elevation of Board Camp Mountain. Forest Service management is evident through the named access routes like the Berry Summit-Mad Riv road and NF-4n06 RD.
