The Rio Grande National Forest high country is defined by steep, high-elevation drainage systems and historic livestock movement corridors. During the mid-1960s, this area of the La Garita Mountains remained primarily accessible via an intricate network of pack trails and jeep tracks, such as the La Garita Stock Driveway (Pack) and the Laughlin Stock Driveway (Jeep). These routes follow the natural contours of the land, connecting prominent summits like Bowers Peak and Boot Mountain.
