The state line between New York and Connecticut bisects this landscape, separating the village of Brewster from the western outskirts of Danbury. The region is defined by a series of north-south reservoirs and ponds, including the Bog Brook Reservoir and the East Branch Reservoir, which were developed to manage the waters of the East Branch Croton River. These water bodies are flanked by significant elevations such as Cornwall Hill and Browns Mtn.

For family historians, the area is rich with small, localized burial sites. These include the Sears Burying Ground near Sears Corners, the Sherwood-Minor Cem, and the Haines Family Burial Ground along the southern border. The rail corridor is dominated by the Metro-North Harlem Line, which connects the historic railroad settlements of Dykemans and Towners in the north to the more densely populated areas around Brewster Hill and Starr Ridge. The diverse land use is further evidenced by industrial features like the Marvin Peat Bed and the numerous small corners and hollows, such as Haviland Hollow and Barnum Corners, that preserve the era's local place-names.
