The Little Belt Mountains define this section of central Montana, where the steep, wooded slopes of the Lewis & Clark National Forest give way to an intricate system of drainages. The landscape is dominated by erosional features such as Alice Coulee, Ellis Coulee, and Hopkins Coulee, which cut through the high northern plateaus. To the south, the deep incision of Browns Canyon and the sharp drop of Antelope Gorge demonstrate the powerful hydrology of Waite Cr and Spring Cr.
