Bucks Lake and its smaller neighbor Lower Bucks Lake dominate this high-elevation landscape within the Plumas National Forest. The 2018 survey reveals a terrain defined by dramatic vertical relief and water management, where numerous small glacial lakes like Kellogg Lake and Thompson Lake dot the granite basins. The Bucks Lodge settlement serves as a gateway to this recreation-heavy area, which is bisected by the iconic Pacific Crest National Scenic Trail. Evidence of the region’s topography is clear in the steep drainages of Pat Maloy Ravine and Boring Mill Ravine. Prominent summits including Spanish Peak and Bucks Mtn provide the backdrop for a network of forest service routes such as Mud Lake Road and Bucks Lake Road, which trace the ridges and shorelines of the Sierra Nevada.
