About this map

Anza-Borrego Desert State Park dominates the southern half of this landscape at the dawn of the 1960s, where the high ridges of Bucksnort Mountain and Combs Peak give way to a complex network of desert washes. The terrain transitions from the high-elevation Table Mountain in the north down into the broad expanses of Terwilliger Valley and Fig Tree Valley. This area is defined by its seasonal water sources, including Tule Spring and Mangalar Spring, which served as vital points in an arid environment primarily traversed by a sparse network of unimproved roads and jeep trails.
