Redwater River and its varied tributaries define this section of the eastern Montana high plains near the McCone and Dawson County line. The landscape is a network of drainage basins, where the N Fork Buffalo Cr and S Fork Buffalo Cr converge to form Buffalo Cr in the south, while Duck Cr and Spring Cr carve paths through the northern sections. This topography is shaped by the subtle rise and fall of the plains, punctuated by small water management features like Switzer Reservoir in the northeast corner.
