About this map

Lolo National Forest encompasses the vast majority of this terrain, where the sharp ridges of the Grave Creek Range and Lolo Range dominate the landscape. In the southern portion of the quadrangle, the passage of time is marked by the convergence of the Lewis and Clark National Historic Trail and the Nez Perce (Nee-Mee-Poo) National Historic Trail along the banks of Lolo Creek. These routes trace the primary corridor of travel through the mountains, where early 20th-century life centered around the Woodman Sch. Resource extraction and land management are evident in the presence of the Sheldon Mine, a Gravel Pit, and the Triantler Prospect. The map illustrates a transition from the drainage basins of Grave Creek and Bear Creek in the north toward the deeper valleys of the south, linked by rugged paths like the Elk Meadows Road.
