Carbert and the surrounding high plains of Daniels County, Montana, define this landscape along the international border with Canada. In the early 21st century, the area remains dominated by wide-open ranching and farming terrain, carved by the seasonal drainage of Coal Cr in the north and the broader path of Butte Cr to the south. The small settlement of Butte Creek sits near the southwestern corner, adjacent to the distinct depression of Lewarton Coulee.
