The south shore of Lake Superior dominates this portion of Iron County, where the landscape transitions from the coastal waters at Marble Point to the wooded interiors of the Bad River Indian Reservation. The small settlement of Birch serves as a central point along the Us-2 corridor, which cuts diagonally across the terrain. Waterways such as Denomie Cr, Morrison Cr, and Graveyard Cr drain northward toward the lake, defining the local hydrology and historical movement through the brush.
