Lake Superior dominates the northern horizon of this mid-century survey, where the rugged state boundary between Wisconsin and Michigan follows the winding course of the Montreal River. The landscape is defined by the transition from the high ridges of the Ottawa National Forest down to the dramatic coastline at Little Girl Point. Near the mouth of the river, Saxon Harbor provides a rare maritime refuge on Oronto Bay, situated just downstream from the cascades of Superior Falls.
