Cedar Bluff Reservoir dominates the southwestern corner of this West-Central Kansas landscape, its waters held by the Cedar Bluff Dam. Downstream from the massive impoundment, the Smoky Hill River meanders eastward across Trego County, carved into a valley defined by significant topographical relief and tributary drainage. The surrounding High Plains are characterized by a precise grid of rural routes including Aa RD, Y RD, and 330 Ave, reflecting the enduring land division system of the region. This 2018 survey illustrates the relationship between managed water resources and the agricultural prairie, showing the reach of the Tunnel Cr and the etched path of Wildon Draw as they feed into the primary river system below the dam.
